We run to greet the ocean, our feet clomping in dry sand, the middle ground, onto the firm stability of wet sand. The resplendent waves are always there, aroar. But have we stopped to take in the interesting contours, shapes, and textures of sand, so often overlooked. “It’s just the stuff in my shoe.” No. Sand is so much more.
The following are these little sand blobs that showed up at Manzanita. They would be printed at 3" x 3" and put either in a small frame, or have three separate openings (3 different images) in one rectangular frame. They "read" best when they are small. There are more, just to give you an idea. The first photo is what they looked like on the beach, just for context, not to frame. (I have a few more)
Here are some misc. coastal shots. As you can see, I am not a traditional landscape photographer.
Water Ways
Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it. - Lao Tzu
Water has no synonym. An unrivaled existence, which few things, living or dead, can say. Reflection is one of its qualities. Color another, blue, green, black, silver, white. When water comes to shore, we find it hard to stay away. We seek the edge, desire to partake in the changes, the mere degrees of ripple.
I have always been intrigued with representations of humans. What lives do they lead while they pretend to be inanimate? In my model photography, their stresses, joys, hopes are an aura of sensation that draws us in. Life puts its handprints all over us, and sometimes footprints, and we bear the marks of all we have experienced, just as these models do. Who knows where they have been. Or where they roam at night.
